Summary: The ESL field is growing more dynamic, as is the need to discuss aligning teaching strategies to this new trajectory. Alternative assessments are one such strategy. This presentation will demonstrate two example alternative assessments, with the opportunity to explore and discuss meaning, benefits, and other ideas.

Biography: Ronica Penar holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Linguistics and a Master’s Degree in TESOL. Currently, she teaches at Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute in Spokane. Her specific interests include Strategies-Based Instruction, Learner Autonomy and Motivation, and creating Communities of Learning in her classroom.
