Summary: When executive orders limiting immigration and refugee arrivals are signed, what emotional impacts do these have on English language learners and their teachers, and how can we support our students and our colleagues? We share the results of our 2017 study and identify what can be done in our own classrooms and schools.

Biography: Dr. Gina Mike Petrie is a professor of English as a Second Language in the Modern Languages Department at Eastern Washington University and has carried out teacher education in TESOL for 20 years. Dr. Janine J. Darragh is an associate professor of Literacy and ESL in the Education Department at University of Idaho and has taught in K-12 and university TESOL teacher preparation for 25 years.
